we would have liked it otherwise

"The purpose of art is not the release of a momentary ejection of adrenaline, but is rather the gradual lifelong construction of  a state of wonder and serenity." Glenn Gould ~Canadian pianist and composer

we would have liked it to be otherwise

the bright splash of sunshine filling
our minds with words for instant
poems--while dashing to unload
the laundry, & to spend quality time

with the cats--all the while
whistling beetoven's ninth;
one hand stirring the pot of soup,
the other hand drying the dishes

however, what it is,  is simply
lovely timing- tethered, no whining
bubbling up, and making calm
ironing the wrinkled questions

until sheets rise over beds
as in leviathan, languorous
or ciabatta, puffy with pride
celebrating, no one hides

we show up to gaze
at the continual brightness,
followed by haze; canyons open
purple, when met with grey eyes

Kate Lamberg
